What is the Solihull Approach?

It is a theoretical model to frame thinking.

The overarching aim of the Solihull Approach is to support quality relationships.

Facilitates understating of mental health and socio-emotional health, right from the start.

Provides a thinking pathway to enable emotional regulation and mobilises reflective capacity.

This evidence-based model supported by ever-growing body of research.

Offering a range of trainings for professionals, and courses for parents.

Training and courses are applicable across the lifespan.

The Approach supports quality interactions and is applicable across diverse: cultural, linguistic, socio-economic, and life experience backgrounds.

Professionals report the approach provides a means for navigating the difficult conversations, by enabling others’ autonomy and reflective capacity.

Professional feedback; life changing, awakening, immediately applicable, makes life and relationships easier, changed my thinking completely.

Parents (research findings) identify increase parenting confidence, and better understand their baby, child or adolescent, resulting from the parent courses.

Parent feedback; empowering, improved my relationship with my baby, should be compulsory, enjoying my baby more, partner and I are working together better.

The breadth of application of the model results from incorporation of recognised theories from Psychoanalyst, Dr Wilfred Bion’s, theory of Containment, and Paediatrician and researcher, Dr Berry Brazelton’s work on Reciprocity. When considered in conjunction, these theories supports others to customise their own behaviour change.

What is the Solihull Approach?

help.png

The Solihull Approach aims to increase emotional health and well-being for parents/teachers/client services workers/managers/early childhood/ mental health workers/ health care professionals and even first responders and sports coaches.

It is about enabling quality relationships by fostering emotional regulation and reflective capacity.

It is an internationally recognised approach to strengthen the bond between parents and children and has been referred to in the most recent ‘MERTIL’ (Trauma informed training Australia 2020) aimed at helping to protect our children from the enduring effects of early relational trauma.

Developed in the UK, participants in this training, initially learn to help caregivers/teachers and other professionals, including managers, to identify, acknowledge and understand emotions that often prevent them from sensitively interpreting behaviour of others - from parents to top level managers.

Proud to be the official Solihull Approach - Governance Centre Australia
